Gliding

As well as the opportunity to fly with Royal Air Force pilots in Tutor aircraft, Air Cadets also get the opportunity to fly in Gliders.  While initial flights are accompanied, for the right cadets they can lead on to solo flights.  Gliding takes place at one of 28 Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGS).

Gliding takes place in one of 2 different gliders, mainly depending upon the gliding school you visit.  There is the winch launched Grob Viking Glider and the motorised Grob Vigilant Glider, which has a motor and propeller, allowing it to self launch and fly up to altitude and then glide down.

Members of South and West Yorkshire Wing regularly visit 642 Volunteer Gliding Squadron located at RAF Linton On Ouse. For more information regarding the Squadron please visit there website link
