BTEC AVIATION STUDIES

The Syllabus

All cadets are encouraged to follow the standard ATC syllabus. This consists of the First Class, Leading, Senior, Staff Part1 and Staff Part2 classifications. Different activities are available to cadets depending on their classification and this is one of the main reasons for progression through the syllabus. All cadets must pass the First Class training in order to take part in virtually any activity although certain exceptions apply.

Examinations

Examinations are held on three occasions a year, normally at the end of March, May and November. The examinations take the form of multiple choice questions and a minimum of 13 correct out of 25 is required to pass. In addition to the above technical subjects, practical training must also be undertaken to qualify for any of the classifications. A minimum of 30 hours must be spent studying at each level in order to qualify for the BTEC and this normally results in one classification being studies per year.

BTEC IN PUBLIC SERVICES

The CVQO now offers all cadets over 16 the opportunity to earn a BTEC First Diploma in Public Services - a widely respected qualification equal to FOUR GCSEs at A to C level (4 Standard Grades at levels 1 - 3 in Scotland).

Whether your objective is higher education or improved opportunities in the workforce, a BTEC Diploma offers members of the Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps the additional edge needed to reach those goals.

To successfully complete the BTEC Programme cadets are required to complete a course syllabus that includes supervised adventure training activities, additional classroom work and one weekend training camp.

BTEC IN MUSIC

The CVQO also offers all cadets over 16 the opportunity to earn a BTEC First Diploma in Music - a widely respected qualification equal to FOUR GCSEs at A to C level (4 Standard Grades at levels 1 - 3 in Scotland).

The BTEC First Diploma in Music has been designed to develop a basic understanding of music as a profession and combines both technical skills with practical elements and research.

Upon completion, Cadets will have demonstrated an understanding of all aspects of performance including solo and ensemble work and how to manage rehearsals. They will also learn how to market, budget, advertise, programme and publicise a music event. Cadets are expected to be able to play a musical instrument prior to enrolling in the course, but do not have to be able to read music.
