Goole Air and Army cadets pay a visit to RAF Waddington to see 51 Squadron.
Goole Air Cadets have had a long standing relationship with 51 Squadron, RAF Waddington. So when their annual Friends and Families Day came round again, Goole Air Cadets were naturally invited to attend. Goole Air Cadets extended this invitation to the Goole Army Cadet Detachment, who they share a building with.
The cadets travelled down from Goole to RAF Waddington. Once they had arrived they were given a presentation on 51 Squadron, its history, role and some of what it does now. This was followed up with a tour around and inside one of the Squadron’s aircraft, a Nimrod R1, a rare treat for the cadets.
Flight Lieutenant Owen, officer commanding 2357 (Goole) Squadron said “It is a rare opportunity for Cadets to get this level of access to an RAF Squadron and aircraft.” He further added “Over the past few years we have been working very closely with our colleagues in the Army Cadet Force. It was nice to be able to offer the Army Cadets to visit a Royal Air Force Station and have a close look at the RAF. The cadets and staff throughout the afternoon interfaced very well together and enjoyed the visit thoroughly”.
Goole Squadron is one of many Squadrons around the country which are part of the Air Training Corps. a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17, or over 20 for staff.
