Cadets Help With The Show.
2009-07-29

Goole Air Cadets, assisted by cadets and staff from Crowle and Askern Air Cadets, attend the Waddington International Air Show.  However this was not just a trip out to an Air Show for the cadets, who for the 15th year helped to run the “Douglas Bader” disabled person’s enclosure at the show.

Ever since the Air Show moved from Finningley in 1995, Goole Air Cadets have helped to run the Disabled persons enclosure at the air show.  The Cadets provide assistance with car parking and well as providing the catering for the enclosure over the 2 days.  However such is the reputation that Goole has built up over the years, a large number of RAF personnel are known to come down to the enclosure in the mornings for breakfast.

While the cadets are not assisting with the enclosure, they are able to enjoy the air show, with front row access to the displays and visits by some of the teams taking part.   Particular highlight for the cadets is the visit by the Red Arrows display team, who visit the enclosure each day after doing their display.

Flight Lieutenant Owen, officer commanding Goole Squadron said “We have been helping with the air show for longer that most of us can remember.  We started when it was still at Finningley and just carried on when it moved.  The cadets and staff really put a lot of effort into the event, but you can see that from the massive amount of positive feedback we receive from the public but also from the air show personnel..”.
Assisting with events like this is just one of the activities the Air Training Corps. offers.  It is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17.  It is also open to those over 20 who wish to join as a staff and assist in the running of such events.  If you are interested in finding out more about Goole Air Cadets visit us as www.gooleaircadets.co.uk, or visit the TA Centre, Pasture Road, Goole on a Wednesday or Friday night.
