868 (Mirfield) Squadron – Open Day And Presentation Parade

On 5th July, 868 Squadron Air Cadets held their annual Open Day and Presentation Parade; one of two events held each year to present the numerous awards the cadets have completed.

 

 

Sixty cadets were present and supported by their parents, friends and family. The Squadron welcomed Stan Hardy, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire who reviewed the cadets on parade and made most of the presentations. These included:

 

Individual Trophies for

Academic Achievement Cdt Jonathan Rhodes

Gliding Scholarship for CSgt Adam Tolson

BTec in Public Services (equivalent to 4 GCSEs) for ICFS Lucas Bray, CCpl Joshua Dransfield, CFS Richard Fleming, ICSgt Lucy Kirk, CCpl James Robinson and CI James White,

Also presented were numerous certificates for:

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards, Gliding Induction Courses, Swimming Competence, and the various levels of Classification Exams (which themselves lead to a BTec in Aviation Studies, equivalent to 2 GCSEs).

 

 

Also attending the parade was Sqn Ldr Allan Hadfield, who presented the Hadfield Trophy to ICWO Alex Nordoff in recognition of his nomination by North Region Air Cadets for the Dacre Sword, an award presented each year to the top cadet in the country.

 

After the formal presentations, guests enjoyed a short series of displays by cadets: Continuity Drill, Band, Fieldcraft and a Casualty demonstration. The formalities were followed by a barbeque lunch.
