Air Cadets walk 100 miles in 4 days
2009-08-13

Two Goole air cadets recently attended the Nijmegen International Four Day Marches in Holland, as part of the South and West Yorkshire Wing team. Cadet Flight Sergeant Matthew Hillam (17) and Cadet Flight Sergeant Matthew Parkinson (17) of 2357 Goole Squadron, spent a week in Holland at Camp Heumensoord in Nijmegen and walked 100 miles in 4 days.

Both Cadets completed the march, and received their 1st year medals, and they are already looking forward to next year’s march. Earlier in the year, 3 cadets from Goole took part in the qualifier at RAF Cosford, and upon completion, started preparing for this, the 93rd year of the Nijmegen marches.

The South and West Yorkshire Wing ATC team was small, but all completed the march, with minimum blisters, and a good time back at camp on all days. Officer Cadet V Docherty of 2357 Goole Sqn said “Goole Squadron are very proud of the 2 Flight Sergeants, it’s such a big achievement for both of them”
Long Distance Walking is just one of the many activies that the Air Training Corps do. The ATC is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17. If you are interested in finding out more about Goole Air Cadets visit us as www.gooleaircadets.co.uk, or visit the TA Centre, Pasture Road, Goole on a Wednesday or Friday night. 7-9pm.
