Dewsbury Air Cadets have jogged their way to glory at the recent South and West Yorkshire Wing Cross Country Championships held at Barnsley Rugby Club. Twelve cadets took part running the 3 mile course. While the rain held off on an overcast afternoon maximum effort was given by every participant giving 96 (Dewsbury) Squadron its’ best results in years.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Rebecca Harpur , 16, from Shaw Cross won the Senior Girls race for the second year running and with the support of the other senior girls, Sara 16, and Semeen Sakharkar,15, Dewsbury Squadron took home the Team trophy. Gold medals for all team members!
The Junior Girls team made up of Gemma Foster, 14, Antonia Gifford, 13, Emily Pinchbeck, 13, all from Ossett, and Phoebe Dawson, 13, all from Dewsbury, then made a tremendous effort coming first in the team standings to win the first place trophy in their age group and team gold medals.
Not only was it a successful day for the girls but the Junior Boys team of Chris Freeman, 15, from Thornhill, Pranay Ballijepalli,14, Oliver Mc Greevy, 14 and Callum Evans, 14, all from Dewsbury, won Team Bronze medals for finishing in third place overall. Chris Freeman finishing in individual 4th place.
The other Squadron representative, Adrian Cooke, 15, from Thornhill, was the Squadrons only entrant in the Intermediate Boys event and finished in a credible 13th.
This exceptional effort resulted in 96 (Dewsbury) Squadron coming overall 5th, out of the 33 Squadrons in South and West Yorkshire Wing.
The Squadron is next recruiting on Monday 8th of March. Boys and Girls aged 13 years and above can apply.
