Up Hill and Round the Houses
2010-03-21

Six Askern Air Cadets Air Cadet recently completed a 7.5 mile hike around Wentworth, South Yorkshire.  The local cadets took part in the walk as part of their predation for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.
The cadets were all in high spirits when they started and were when they finished.  The walk took them over rolling hills, through little villages and over open farm land.  The cadets used the skills they had learnt at the Squadron to navigate their way around the walk, managing to stay on track and on time.  The cadets are now looking towards their upcoming expeditions, which will require them to walk for 2 days and camp overnight.

Officer Cadet V Docherty, 2nd in Command at Askern, said “It was great to see so many of the cadets able to attend the walk.  They got to put into practice what they have learnt in the classroom and in some beautiful surroundings.”
Askern Squadron is one of many Squadrons around the country which are part of the Air Training Corps. a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17, or over 20 for staff.  Expeditions such as this one are just one of the many activities we offer.  If you are interested in finding out more about Askern Air Cadets visit us as www.askernatc.com  or visit the Cadet Hut, Askern Spa School, Askern on a Tuesday or Friday night.
