Cadets are Shooting Stars
2010-05-17
Army and Air Cadets came together at Goole TA Centre to take part in a joint weapons training event. The weekend event saw a number of different cadets, from both the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Crops, attend to take part in various weapons training and target shooting. Unfortunately the Sea Cadet Corps were unable to attend and make it a full tri-service event.
The weekend activities saw cadets trained on the No. 8 rifle, a manual rifle similar to those used during the First World War. Other cadets were trained on L98A2, a semi automatic rifle similar to that used by the current Armed Forces. The training was delivered by both Army and Air Cadet staff, using weapons provided by both groups. This is the second such event held at Goole, and follows on form a similar venture last year. It also marked the continuing relationship between Goole Army and Air Cadets, who have worked together in the past on a number of joint ventures.
Flight Lieutenant A Owen, Officer in Charge of the event, said “It was great to see so many cadets able to attend the event. The support from the Army Cadets Staff was invaluable, without them the event would not have been possible.” Target Shooting is just one of many activities the Air Training Corps do, the ATC is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17.
