A brief meeting on Remembrance Sunday has lead to a formal affiliation between Askern Air Cadets and the Burgwallis branch of the Royal British Legion. Askern Air Cadets normally parade at Bentley, but a request for help led to a contingent parading in Askern, which in turn lead to the chance meeting.
Traditionally Air Cadet, Army Cadet and Sea Cadet units and the Royal British Legion have worked together to ensure that many local community events such as the Remembrance day parade and the RBL poppy appeal collections have been a success.
To help develop the relationship between the cadets and the RBL, the 2 groups have entered into an Agreement of Affiliation. In doing so the Burgwallis branch of the Royal British Legion and 1384 (Askern) Squadron Air Training Corps have agreed to provide mutual support, encouragement and where practicable help in achieving the aims and objectives of both organisations.
Representatives of both the Royal British Legion and Askern Air Cadets met at Askern Squadron headquarters, where they exchanged formal Affiliation certificates in order mark what was a memorable occasion.
